Lung Cancer Awareness Month

"A Breath of Prevention"-idea is -to encourage and educate people to understand the importance of lung cancer and ways to prevent lung cancer.

>> About 2.2 million cases are diagnosed per year. It is third most common cancer, first being breast cancer.


Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death globally.

Almost 1.8 million people died from lung cancer in 2020, almost double the number of cancer deaths caused by the second most common cause of cancer death, colorectal cancer.

Cigarette smoking is the predominant cause of lung cancer; other risk factors include secondhand smoke, exposure to asbestos or radon at home or work, air pollution, and having family history of lung cancer.

Small portion of lung cancer also happens in people with no known risk factors for the disease.


Prevention:

There is no way to completely prevent lung cancer.

Here are of some things that you can do to lower your risk;

Stay away from tobacco

Avoid radon exposure https://www.cdc.gov

Avoid or limit exposure to cancer-causing agents-asbestos, second hand smoke

Eat a healthy diet

A healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables may also help reduce your risk of lung cancer.
